Thanks to all for your replies. I realize that lots of cottages are requiring minimum of one week rental. But I will make a few calls and maybe more googling.

Hi all, Hope everyone is having a fun long weekend so far. We will have guests over between June 20 to June 30, and I am looking to rent a cottage for about 3 nights and take them fishing. Ideally it's within 3 hours of driving from GTA and has great fishing, quantity matters more than quality, species doesn't really matter, bass/walleye/musky or anything that might bite. I will be bring my own boat. Any advice will be appreciated!
-
Thanks again for all the additional tips. I don't think I know how to balance the wheels myself. Might have to send it to the dealer unless someone can tell me it's easy to do.
-
Thanks. That's even closer than the Outer Banks area.
-
Awesome! Thanks OhioFisherman for the link. That will be very helpful for me to get to know the lake. Too bad I won't be there this April to catch those lunker bass.
-
Yes I think it's about 3 hr drive to the Outer Banks. I have no idea if my Lund can be used in salt water though, even if it can, I have to stay real close to shore due to its size.

I am mainly after bass, but I will take Striper and Catfish any day, especially big ones . We are planning to buy a house in Chapel Hill, so Jordan lake should be very close.

Thanks again for all your valuable suggestions. I can always count on your guys for tips every time I need it. Best forum with so many knowledgeable members who are willing to share!

Wow 6000kms! Did you have any trouble at all with the bearings and tires on the trip?
-
By the way, I trust our U.S cousins are wise enough not to elect Trump. If they do, Canada should build a wall along the border to stop American refugees

Thanks to all for your suggestions. It's good to know that some of you have done it and it's not a NO-NO. I am planning to replace the 2 tires and repack the bearings myself. So hopefully I am good there. Yes the Enclave comes with a towing package. I will try not to load anything on the boat or the Enclave when towing. The move is due to a change in work and will be paid in USD. I am moving to North Carolina (RTP region). Not sure how the fishing will be there though, they don't have as many lakes as we do here.

Greetings all, I am moving to the U.S from Toronto soon and am planning to tow my 1725 Lund boat with me. One way distance is about 1300 km. A couple of questions for you guys: 1) Has anyone towed boat this far and what should I be watching out for. Towing vehicle is a Buick Enclave. 2) Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should sell the boat here and then buy another one down south, or simply tow it to the U.S? Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the legality of this, but love that "hook-setting"...

Good point. Looks like CAA Plus does not cover boat though. Might have to go up one level to Plus RV membership.

Thanks for the excellent inputs so far. You all should feel good, cos you never know, your post might help someone somewhere and it may even prevent an accident or two...

Just started a new topic: Boating and Trailering Safety Do's and Dont's
-
Hi all, While discussing my trailer issue, the boating / trailering safety and preparedness issue was brought up, and I thought this important topic itself deserves a dedicated thread, so that boaters, especially new ones like me can learn from the wise men and women in this forum. Here it goes. Please add your Do's and Dont's to this list, I will get it started: 1. Do always have a spare trailer tire and properly inflated, and proper lug wrench (from Lew). 2. Do have a right size jack in your towing vehicle (from Tom) 3. Do have a pair of right size pliers in your boat, in case the starting battery dies, you can use it to swap trolling motor battery to start the engine. (from DRIFTER_016 and my personal experience) Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the great advice! This is an important topic which probably deserves a separate dedicated thread, so that all boaters can be well-prepared.

100% agreed. You can never be over-prepared. I learnt a lesson this past weekend on the lake. At the end of the fishing day, I was ready to head back to the boat ramp, turned the engine key and nothing happened. It turned out the starting battery was completely drained by the fishing finder, and the live well pump which I accidentally left on. I wanted to disconnect the trolling motor battery and use it for starting the engine, however, I don't have a pair of proper pliers on the boat to do it. I used to keep a pair in the boat but took it off due to rusting. Luckily the trolling motor still had a lot of battery left, I trolled to the nearest cottage and borrowed a pair of pliers, swapped the batteries and started the engine. By the way, I really want to thank the cottage owner for allowing me to borrow his pliers (If you are reading, you know who you are).

Thanks Lew, great advice! I have been trailering only twice a year in the previous years. Once beginning of the season and once end of the season. Only started trailering on weekends this year, and you are absolutely right, can't take the risk anymore. Will get both tires replaced and maybe use the good one (still look new) as a spare.
-
Thanks Tom, will keep that in mind.
-
Thanks Moosebunk! That's really good to know that you had the same issue and fixed it by only increasing the tire pressure. I have repacked my bearings and pushed the pressure up to 45 psi now. Hopefully the problem will go away. I should still replace the tire once I find a matching one, or at least get a spare.

a little prayer from anyone is appreciated

Best of luck and please take it easy. -
The one nearby does not seem to service trailers. Will make a few more calls if I decide to have the axle replaced. Thanks!
