  1. leave policing to police. you saw no crime. not that you can call fishing with bait in a no bait a "crime" but anyway. Probably had a pocketful of alternatives to use. I wouldn't go back to my truck to put the worms away either. There are a lot of keeners here.
  2. jaspers have a reputation for squealing like a stuck pig for a couple weeks though! be warned. I won't put em on again, they where a fine pad, and lasted quite well considering the price, but it was lesson learned with the squealing i buy the primo stuff now.
  3. at least one of your neighbours will know how to do a break job, ask for assistance. it is one of the simplest and most straightforward jobs you can do on your own vehicle. the ones claiming concern on here are just mystified because they believe its a safety issue, and thats fine, but anyone who is even a little bit handy can do a rotor/pad job, with limited effort! by all means purchase a manual if it makes things easier, but for the most part its a straightforward job!
  4. Ban granola, that'll fix the hemp wearing wheat grass drinking birkenstock sporting twits! Failing that, lets put em all on an island where they can be happy chatting with the coconut trees and petting the monkeys. As for me, bring on the rodeo!
  5. really like the one I had, busted it though. I wouldn't trade your okuma for it, Ranger is right on approximate age of that rod.
  6. what the heck is a walter? if your talking about pickeral, then shiners in my opinion. not sure what these walleyes, or walters are, pretty sure there an american fish!
  7. I'm guessing you had bad xt. I have bought line at canadian tire on a couple of occasions, and its lousy right off the rack. guess it sits warehoused for a long time. I landed a lot of fish I believe would have otherwise been lost with a lesser line, on 6lb xt. I don't even go with the 8, as I have even put the odd 40 inch musky in the boat hooked while pickeral fishing with the 6lb, long as they don't have the lure deep. the 8 is unbelievable strong, and i spool 12 xt on 2 baitcasters for pike/bass fishing. used it forever, and it flat works. Like the xl also, good stuff, not quite as stiff.
  8. you could cat burgal up the side of a glass building with those things. i have one and its holding power is incredible. buy with confidence.
  9. pitch that tv down the hole, and buy a flasher. The tvs are only good watching fish, not so much catching them. 1) 2lb fluoro. 2) jiggin spoon i someitmes use a large pike sized spoon just to stir up silt, and put perch on the feed. 3) mini rap, tip a front hook with a powerbait if it makes you feel more confident. 4) and most important... micro bug of some sort, heavy heads are best, tip with gulp waxie, or as mentioned a chunk of honey worm. This will produce most of your fish, but your biggest will come on the spoon. move a lot. stir up the bottom, and the most critical piece of knowledge you can ever have about perch fishing is that perch like to chase. a very slow methodical lift (not a jig) from bottom up will catch most of your fish. that and moving. i've often seen perch on the flasher that have their bellies in the dirt, and won't take a bait. I don't waste any time with them. no more than 15 minutes then scoot. therer are just to many perch in simcoe to waste time on ones that aren't active, 3 holes later and you'll be on fressh fish. good luck, bait in simcoe for pannies is just a mindset. a lot of dudes waste a lot of cash on bait, and the hassle of carting it around. get yor confidence up and you'll never look back.
  10. cooks bay is the one place i go when i want guaranteed perch. you have to move around a lot to get them over 9 inches, but if you can't catch perch on cooks bay on a daily basis your doing something wrong. no bait needed, just keep moving. all you need is one rod with a jigging spoon to stir up silt, one rod with a small jiggin rap, and one rod with with a small bug type bait, and a rubber power maggot or gulp, or something like that. with these 3 items, your equipped. you will sort through plenty of fish, i find 7-8 inches is pretty average. the ideal keepers in my mind are 9-10 inches, anything under and over goes back, like i said you will have to move and sort to get these fish. so yes, there is a real mix of size in cooks bay, but its easy pickings. throw those fat bellied sows back when you do catch them, they are just a waste anyway all roe, with a nice back fillet, but you can get nearly as much meat off a 10 inch perch. might as well let them breed.
  11. tonyb that could be because you fished the morning.scugog is traditionally an evening fishery. it is extremely productive, but yes, fishing can die off a bit, just like anywhere.
  12. Last year i took son fishing, try load atv, portable hut, snacks gear etc, get to lake, unload atv, snacks, portable hut, hook up and get ready to go, then watch the fruit of my loins go up to his crotch in a partially frozen drainage ditch, where he happily decided to play, soaking snowpants boots etc. he enjoyed watching me load everything back up again as we turned around for home. at least you got fishing, this year my boy knows not to play near the drainage ditches.
  13. first they wanted your guns, now they want your fishhut.
  14. I've had this same issue with a motor I owned. I would look into wether it can be added as an option. A lot of engines have the space for the pull start to be added, and its about a hundred bucks as an option. Both are good engines though, just boils down to preference. I would definately have the pull start if possible. I've had to pull the cover and wrap the cord and its a pain in the butt when there is any chop, likely when you'll need it most. On a glass calm summer day, it won't be an issue, but thats also the one time you won't pooping your pants trying to do it.
