  1. Hello OFNers! Planning a spring trip for my dad, my brother and I. Brother's coming up from California so I want to make this a good one. Looking for good fishin, nice housekeeping cabin w/ running water + showers, good boats, + remoteness. Was wondering if anyone has any insight into Beauchene and how it stacks up to esnagami or leuenbergers out of nakina, which look like the second option. Thank you! Schnaggs
  2. Solopaddler thats amazing info- - about to leave in 20 min. thanks to all and will get back with a report. Later! Schnaggs
  3. Solopaddler! I must give you my report on the Kenogami River which you helped me out on! (hint - was a real eye-opener - thanks again for your help)... What about all those portages on the crow heading to lavaque? sounds interesting but not sure if the gfriend will be up for it (unless the fishing is waaaay better).... and are the brookies holding in the crow river itself this time of year (thats what I'm hoping for so i can cast the fly rod) or is there better luck trolling the lakes? Schnaggs
  4. Wow thats terrific jjcanoe. Did you mean to camp right on Little crow or to camp on Big Crow (think you meant Big Crow cause that would make sense). Also we're planning on setting up base camp on Big Crow and doing day trips for brookies into the crow river. Is there brook trout potential in the whole river/worth doing the portages to get in there? And as for the Proulx lake fishin (and for fishin the Big Crow lake as well), is it necessary to rig up the 3-way swivel action with a heavy sinker or can we simply use jigs/spoons/spinners without weight to get to the fish. Your advice is truly, truly appreciated my friend and I hope to post a report upon my return. Thx Schnaggs
  5. Hello All! Heading out on a last-minute trip to Algonquin from Sunday to Wednesday. I know there's plenty of smallmouth in the park, but I've just gotta try to catch my first Algonquin brookie!! I've been advised by Algonquin Outfitters to head to Big Crow Lake (north of Opeongo) and to try the Crow River since the trout may be easier to catch in there... As well I'll be bringing both the fly rod and spinning gear. I still have time to reorganize myself based on valuable OFC advice so if anyone can help me that would be great! Yrs Shnaggs
  6. Hello all, Schnaggs here. So I took a fly fishing course this past weekend, had a blast, and are now getting addicted to this beautiful sport.. Man is it ever exciting to play a fish on the fly..!! Anywhoo, i heard that bass pro is selling a "temple fork" outfit of rod, reel, line, and tippet for like 200 bucks, and their next level up for the whole outfit is a sage for like 400 bucks.. it would be a great help if anyone could help me on what makes and prices i should be paying to get set up!! Yrs, Schnaggs
  7. Irishfield... you made me think of a coupla questions: First, what's everyone's best method of shooing away bears when in deep wilderness? Anyone have thoughts on river walleye & pike versus lake walleye and pike? Thanks again for your thoughts! Shnaggs
  8. DustinK, Never been up in Hearst area, and am really looking forward to this and I've heard good things bout Hearst Air. How's the fishing at Fushimi?
  9. Hello all, I'm an oldtime member from whose now re-registered. Great to see the board is thriving! Anywho, I just confirmed a trip with Hearst Air for some serious sprintime fishin. Always looking for that extra "wilderness" experience, I'm looking to boat the Kenogami River (put in is just west of Hearst) which flows north into the Albany River. and then get picked up by Hearst Air where the Kenogami/Albany intersect. I'll be roughin it (camping) but am hoping for some beautiful nature, and hopefully some larger pike and walleye along the way. Just wanting to see if anyone has fished the area or this acutal river (Kenogami) and has any advice!! I'm looking forward to this one... Cheers Shnaggs
