  1. Hero dog.

Sure, your dog keeps the letter wielding postman from attacking, but would he take a bullet on your behalf?

Dog owner Osmar Persisco of Garibaldi, Brazil, knows the answer is “yes” after his pet Max leapt to defend him from armed robbers, taking three bullets along the way.

Persisco was parking his truck near Max’s favourite field when two armed robbers approached him and demanded the keys to his vehicle.

Persisco resisted and the thieves opened fire, drawing blood after grazing the 47-year-old’s forehead with a bullet.

That’s when Max lost his cool.

“He saw the blood and was furious,” Persisco told Brazilian newspaper Globo. “He left like a rocket to attack the thieves. One of them ran away, but Max dominated the other one. To defend himself, the thief ended up shooting the dog. Max thwarted the assault and saved my life.”

Max was hit twice in his chest and once in his leg, but by then he had scared off the potential thieves.

Persisco rushed the heroic pet he had adopted three years earlier to his local vet. Max is expected to make a full recovery.

“If I didn’t have my dog around, they would have killed me,” Persisco told the paper. “He’s my hero.”

Any chance a cat would do the same thing?? :whistling:

  2. Genetically their is no difference in labs one color to another that would lead to a difference in intelligence. that said, many people want chocolates, and as a result the back yard breeders favorite color to breed is chocolate. Choose your breeder carefully and it won't matter what color lab you choose. There are 3 and only 3 lab colors. Black, chocolate and yellow. The yellow can vary from almost white to red.

"Genetically" your statement may be correct BUT breeding plays a huge part in intelligence, maturity and health issues. Back yard breeders dilute the quality of the breed and since Chocolate is the preferred colour it is affected the most.

Outside of a perfect world colour absolutely DOES matter.

  3. Ahhhhh, he's a real cutie! I was worried about the shedding as well. I think that's why I'm now leaning towards the Lab.

Not all Labrador Retrievers are created equal. [in general] The chocolate are the slowest to mature and the black are the smartest. The yellow is somewhere in between. The chocolate for some reason also seem to have the most health issues [again in general] usually allergies.

The "Golden" is not a Labrador Retriever colour and is actually a Golden Retriever.

The best thing you could do is run your requirements through an online breed selector such as this one.

Everyone on the forum will have their own bias, including me. Another option is to rescue an unwanted dog.

Good luck in selecting your new family member.

  4. As an avid dog lover and rescue volunteer I was quite saddened to read of your plight until I got to the part that said "will take the best offer". This is a self proclaimed "family member" not a used car. Sure you have an investment in her as she has an investment in you (and the rest of the family). But she has no options and depends entirely on you to look out for her best interests. That's the deal when you take on the responsibility to share your life with a dog.

Blaque has provided many good ideas to keep her in the family. If none of these are feasible then your first priority is to find the best possible solution for her - not you. Cash is not a part of this equation.

NEVER disconnect a battery when a vehicle is running.

This was something we could get away with in the 60's and 70's and sometime beyond - but with the advent ECM, fuel injection, etc, etc, this is no longer possible.

  6. No experience with BRP but a bit with Yamaha, Polaris and Honda. Considering the amount of abuse the owners of these machines (not me) gave them - they all survived. The Polaris in particular had the crap beat out of it on a weekly basis and while it needed gorilla strength to get it to run straight - would not die. The Yamaha owner managed to break both front axles (two different times) by putting too much tension on the front end. There are limits to how much they will climb and at what speed!!

If I had to choose it would be Yamaha followed by Honda. This is largely due to the amount of time I spent on a Grizzly, working it big time and then taking it to the trails and track. Solid machine and no complaints with what you threw at it.

Buddy bought a 2010 Polaris Sportsman 500. Factory tie wrapped (tight) the tank breather tube. This caused small problems due to the use pattern but could have collapsed the tank had it been used for speed runs.

I know you are buying used but one indication of quality is the length of warranty - compare and see for yourself which manufacturers don't have faith in their products.

    Just my opinion YMMV. :worthy:

  7. A blaze orange collar with a pressure release tab and a riveted I.D. tag with your cell #.Attaching a bell is a plus both for finding them and prevents them from sneaking up on animals. Ask your vet for a list of medications, bandages and wound closure items to have on hand. I keep a kit on all of the boats for man and beast just in case it is to far for immediate critical care.

I thought I had all the bases covered until I saw your suggestion on the collar. Great tips.

  8. I just realized after spooling two reels that the Rapala line that was on sale at Bass Pro was labeled wrong. Like I said, last year they didn't seem to have any 8 lb. test but had lots this year. I got 3 spools of the 8 or so I thought. All boxes said 8 lb but two of the spools said 6. What the hell! I wonder how many more are like that. Not much of a difference but I got 3 boxes of 6 last year and now 2 more that I don't need. Kinda late to do anything now but who would think to check? Not happy. Has anyone else noticed this?

I suspected something was odd when the line was breaking so easily. Did some tests and sure enough each package I bought was over rated by 2lbs. The actual weight rating was determined by the real line diameter and not the package marking.

Wasn't a big deal in the end as I used 4lb "marked" line for Perch rather than the intended Crappie. :dunno:

  9. I am aware of that, but it is SO MUCH FUN aurguing with the adjuster. Being a stubborn dutchman and all.....woooden shoes, wooden head, wooden listen.

It is a matter of pride to get the offer above 4k

If you didn't own it would you pay $4k for it?

Unless it is a GT model in MINT condition it is probably worth no more than $2800. If you manage to get $4k for it and it is not a GT model in MINT condition then please tell us your secret.
