  1. Hi all, My buddy and I headed out to break trail to our nearby favourite walleye lake, after an hour of breaking trail and checking ice conditions we got to one of our spots and spent another hour staring down the holes. Once the sun hit the treeline we had a short 20 minute flurry of action, iced 6 walleye but 4 were tiny and went back, I came home with my catch, one just under 18" and one just under 22". Fun afternoon.

  2. So I was in IG on Friday and saw that they had family packs of 5 boneless sirloin chops on sale for $2.49 lb and I couldn't resist that price so I grabbed two packs and also grabbed a dual pack of pork tenderloin to use all the racks. One side of 5 chops got Montreal steak spice and the other 5 got a good dose of curry powder. The other side will get a Mango Chipotle spice and the other will get a Traeger Blackened Sakatchewan rub which I quite like. The tenderloins got a good smearing of mustard and then a good coating of Meathead's Memphis Dust rub that I made. Here's the recipe for anyone interested. https://amazingribs.com/tested-recipes/spice-rubs-and-pastes/meatheads-memphis-dust-rub-recipe/ Things are looking up.

  3. what do you mean "ice fishing"? are you trying to bush crash into back lakes or just towing a pop up down the lake? IMO Yamaha is by far the best, polaris is 2nd, cat 3rd, skidoo is junk, whatever brand you pick stay away from high performance models, go for entry level, simple, basic, low performance stuff

  4. Been looking for a sled mainly for ice fishing. Seems like a lot of older sleds for sale, lots of early 2000's with most having a fair number of miles on them. Is there a cut off for miles on certain sleds? Seems Yamahas have way more mile than most.

  8. From a very reliable source, parts are hard to get even for newer sleds of any brand, the cost of tracks has virtually doubled, other parts are almost impossible to get. Guys that have been ordering tracks from last spring to summer are still waiting. The shop he works in has requests from all across the country. when you go to buy, make sure it's not a basket case that needs a lot of work.

  10. Thx for sharing Simon and enjoy your fish fry. Some of my best eye memories are from the sometimes unbelievable dusk bites back in the day on Scugog. Double digit numbers of eyes per person happened often enough during those 30-45 minute feeding frenzies.

  18. 7-10 hours from Niagara. Drive to. You look at options from Baskatong up to La Verendrye Wildlife Reserve? It'd very likely tick off the four species you've listed and there are plenty operators.

  22. Brian, I've been on a roll for the past few months using a "Sous Vide" as much as possible! I bought a bunch of Blade roasts when they were on sale. I got them for under $24.00. Two are resting in the freezer and one I cooked in my Sous Vide for 30 hours at 133F. Along with the meat, I also added... fresh thyme and a dry rub. Into the vacuum pack and into the water bath for as I said 30 hours. The roast came out perfectly med rare. A quick trip out to the BBQ set on sear for 5 minutes to brown it up and it was glorious. Cut thin against the grain and you could cut it with your fork! Tonight, I am putting jerk wings in it for 2 hours at 155F, then into the convection oven to brown. Because the Sous Vide "cooks" the meat in it's own juices, there is no need to marinate any more, the cooking process flavours the meat. I also have a full beef brisket in the freezer. That will take about 40-50 hours in the Sous Vide at 155F. Once cooked, it will go into the fridge for 3 hours, then onto the BBQ for browning! As far as which machine to buy, there are basically two kinds to consider. The lower priced units are virtually the same as the higher priced units with the only real difference being blue tooth connected to your phone for remote monitoring. Typically they can be had had for under a hundred bucks, without the blue tooth option. I know that CTC has them on sale right now for around $80.00. (If you are an Air Miles person, they are currently available at a reduced cost, thats where I got mine) HH

  27. Hey there In your targeted areas I have been to Lady Evelyn twice and enjoyed the trip. I did American plan and housekeeping. Happy to provide more details but overall Lady E was great. Not to far, felt remote and fishing was good. Reports on my blog here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/things-that-go-bang-in-the-night We also went to Brennan Harbour one year which is in Spanish Ontario. It was American plan but I believe the offer different packages including housekeeping. We enjoyed our trip, fishing was good and it’s relatively close the to GTA Report here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/fat-bottom-bouncers-make-the-fishing-world-go-round We also did 2 fly ins w White River air as well which would be close to your distance preferred. Two reports on my blog as well depending on time of year you plan on going and the lake you may get that close to your budget Cheers and best of luck Andrew
