  1. Well Saturday on Simco was a much slower day. As I had expected that cold front that moved in Friday made a big difference in just one day. We worked hard and tried a variety of baits and techniques but best we could do for the day was 6 keeper perch. It was still wonderful to get out there and I am really loving having someone else worry about maintaining the hut and all and me just being able to relax and fish 😊. Thursday we caught a burbot and decided to try it, OMG was it ever good! We went on Youtube to research cleaning and cooking them and got some great ideas. We decided to try a couple of variations for cooking it and our favourite was cut into chunks like scallops, tossed in fishcrisp, and pan fried in oil. Never again will burbot be released 😁

  2. I decided to pass on today as I figured the cold front here would shut things down too. Things like molecular movement!!!! 🥶 🥶 🥶

  3. I've said it before but I spose it's worth repeating here. I bought a new 90 HP Merc 4stroke back in '99 and drove it for 10 years and put a ton of hours on it and the motor was absolutely perfect the entire time and never needed a single repair. I sold it to my bud after 10 years and he he put another pile of hours on it and drove it for another 6 or 7 years before it needed it's 1st actual repair. Yes, I'd recommend a 90 Merc. I bought a new 150 Yamaha when I sold the Merc and drove it for 7 years and again it was absolutely flawless just like the Merc. Yes, I'd recommend a Yamaha. I do all my own maintenance on a regular basis and that certainly helps keeping anything working.

  4. I'm a Yamaha guy too but Mercury makes a great product as well. My main fishing buddy bought a Lund a few years ago with a 115 Merc and I love the exhaust sound....Much better than my 'sewing machine' Yamaha F90!

  6. I'd rather have a well running Yamaha "sewing machine" than a black anchor with a moniker of Many Emergency Repair Centers when things break down.

  7. Nothing wrong with either of those motors, the thing I would consider in making your decision is service, having easy access to really good reliable service is important. The other thing I would consider is the extra cost to make the change.

  11. I have never done well on a cold front for perch Cliff. So now that I'm retired and can pick whatever days I want to fish, I can avoid those days. A burbot meal is still on my bucket list. I caught one back in the late 70's when we used to rent huts for overnighters with Floyd Hales out of Beaverton. Didn't have a clue back then what it was and released it. Over 40 years of chasing perch on Simcoe and I never caught another one. It will be going in my belly if I do get another one.
