  1. I was asked to step out of my comfort zone on a project unlike anything I have ever attempted, but with the help of a skilled artisan/carver/painting friend I'm well on my way to getting this custom fly in Brook Trout rod assembled.

  2. You have special skills there Spiel. I'm not sure what you are building but I know it will be great when you are finished. The most expensive rod I have was around 100 bucks and I won that in The Stelco Fishing Club draw many, many years ago so I'm not a customer but an admirer.

  3. Just got back from a 4 night family camping/fishing trip in Parry Sound. Save to say we did very well! My son caught quite a few bass He had a huge one break off a couple days ago, that was cruising around under a dock, so we came back this morning before heading back home and he caught it this time. The Monster was 20 inches long, 6 inches thick, 6.4 pounds! we are going to be a replica made, it swam away just fine. Awesome fish!

  8. OI If I have it right that's the butt section of a fly rod in Speckled Trout pattern. You can see where the reel mounts in the bottom. Spiel I'm just curious as to that wire running through. Is it just for hanging? Lovely work btw.

  10. Haven't been there in many years but I used to use the town launch right in Honey Harbour. Just looked on Google Earth and I don't even recognize the place anymore. Can't even figure out where the town dock/launch is. There's marinas everywhere. Life was better before all this development. Looks like it's still there Honey Harbour Park Landing is the name of the place. Lots and lots of Marinas with launches too.

  11. what he said. Bring a big net and make sure you have heavy enough gear. Fish stress easy in warm water. fortunately these cool nights should be helping. You can also launch at Lighthouse cove and basically troll the whole way to Belle...been there done that

  14. The Ontario "plan" to get kids back to school is so flawed, it's only going to make things worse than they are now. Just a couple of points to ponder... -they have no real plan for kids showing up sick. Yes, they will put a room aside to keep the sick kids in, until their parents arrive to pick them up. Whose going to be in that room all day with sick kids? In many cases, sick kids wait for their parents for hours, while they are at work -mass retirements being announced across the board. In some cases this is good, in others, problematic -admin staff in schools (Office staff) will be responsible for entrance checks, ie temp checks. This responsibility falls on the principal and VP. With the average school having 600 kids or more, temp checks will take until lunch time! -busing is a nightmare! I could go on..... I think the thing that we have neglected to consider in these plans is that the virus is transmitted mostly through the air, so anywhere people are in enclosed spaces, it thrives. We have done a great job to this point in reducing people's exposure by wearing masks and avoiding enclosed spaces, only to shove our kids and educators into exactly that. IMHO, virtual learning is the only way to go to protect our most vulnerable. HH ***Full disclosure*** My wife is a Principal in the TDSB. I may have some insight into the goings on!

  15. I've been lucky enough to spending a few days on the St. Lawrence River recently and the Hi-Def Relief Shading on the Navionics charts definitely gave us a new perspective on the structure that we were targeting. We fished anywhere from 15-50 FOW and caught some beautiful Smallies, there were also lots of smaller specimens. By no means was the fishing easy but always fun to try something new and catch a few hawgs! The majority of the fish came on a dropshot rig, a Ned rig or a Carolina rig! A Z-Man TrickShotZ for dropshotting, Finesse TRD for Ned rigging and a Diesel Minnow for Carolina rigging were the ticket, still blown away by how long these baits last on the hook!

  17. I hate steel leaders so I have not used them in years. I have landed quite a few pike w/o getting bitten off very often but I think my luck has run out----2 bitten off in the past week. This fishing is getting to be an expensive racket---taking my lucky 'killer'lures too.! I have seen some suggestions on here previously but cannot find that thread right now.My bud uses 15-20 # "super abrasion resistant" fluoro. What is you considered/expert opinion😃----- TIA
