  3. I tend to fall more on Cliffs side of the debate as my previous posts would attest. But I do appreciate that you have thought this through using the lens of your personal experience and have come to a different decision than I did. There are degrees of safe conduct and you're not wrong to say people at the park in Toronto are a whole different thing than you alone on a lake in Hali. However there are still good reasons why the police don't want you to travel. They've been posted before So I won't repeat them again. A lot of people are saying they will stop when the law forces them to. That actually does make the job of the government harder. It's not easy for a federal government to declare martial law, it changes the dynamic of the federal provincial relationship. It actually takes a lot of power away from Premiers who are local and probably have the best idea of what's needed in their province. It forces the federal government to manage over the premiers on many different battle fronts. And the Premiers have been asking Trudeau not to do it for this reason. But as far as I know the Premiers cannot legally force us to stay inside, that has to be federal. That is why they are literally begging people to comply rather than be forced. Being forced complicates the fight. I am also begging everyone on this board to reconsider. I won't browbeat you all about it (anymore!) but please think about why the PM, Premiers and Mayors are begging you everyday to stay inside. Good luck and stay safe everyone.

  6. Good reply Dutch01, you make a strong case, but I wonder where we would be with all this if the Feds had gotten off their asses earlier than they did. They left the barn door open far too long in my opinion and that is why we're talking about these things, things we shouldn't need to discuss at all. But I guess I am digressing a little. Anyway, we'll see what happens in the very near future.

  13. I understand that you worried about all this, we all are or should be, but I have been living with it since the middle of March when my wife started showing symptoms. She works at the Pinecrest home in Bobcaygeon and was diagnosed with it, her positive test result came back on March 27th. She has since recovered and has had 2 negative tests and is returning to work tomorrow. I'm not saying I am an expert about any of this, but when 1 person of your family has it and brings it home and the other 3 people in the home have yet to develop symptoms (knock on wood), since March 17th or so, it proves that isolation and taking precautions can work. Living in the same home with it, is far different than going fishing for a day where, as I said before, you are literally 100s of feet from another person. In my personal situation, I gravitate toward the smaller lakes of Haliburton and Eastern Ontario, where you see very few fisherman over the course of the day, sometimes none. Even launching in Fenelon, to fish Cameron Lake, you are never that close to another person to be worried about it being transmitted to you. If someone gets within 10 feet, you tell them to back off, it's that simple. Making comments about people being selfish does not help facilitate an intellectual discussion about it either. At the end of the day, the government will make the rules and the police will enforce them. So far there has been no mandatory order to stay home, just a strong suggestion and those suggestions are aimed at the people who weren't being smart in the cities that were taking their kids to parks etc. I don't see how a person fishing on their own in the middle of a lake is anywhere near the same situation. When and I believe it will happen, the government orders us to stay home and the police stop me from towing my boat to my favourite lake, then I will, until then we should be able to fish... with caution and using common sense. It really is a to each his own debate.

  16. I must be feeling my age then..lol. Started the season in Leamington (5 hr drive round trip), plus launch/load and cleaning 12 fish... With 2 to 3 hours of pulling in wally's on 8/10 colour leadcore I was done.. Lets face it, this is not fun fishing, pulling in these things is like dragging an old boot. But they are damn tasty and worth every bit of effort 😄

  21. My 2019 Princecraft Resorter 160BT, 40 hp Merc 4-stroke tiller, with a Minn Kota Terrova iPilot 80 lb electric on the bow, and Humminbird graphs at the rear and bow. Love the boat so far, lots of room and fantastic fish-ability. The big Terrova with iPilot allows effortless trolling and anchoring. A couple of opening-weekend walleyes and a nice smallmouth caught in front of my place on the Ottawa River.

  22. Can't decide which has given me more pleasure (beauty aka "old faithful" - 35+ years complete with boarding stairs to help my 94 year old mother in-law get in and out) ... or the beast (can't believe she's already almost 8 years ... only got out a couple times last year and this year is looking a little iffy too) The beast ... does have a 300 litre tank ... so I suppose I could self Isolate at sea

  24. An alternative solution is to make a mask at home that can be washed. Nobody knows how effective the various N95 masks are but,IMO, anything is better than nothing as long as you still follow the other saftey measures. A well made mask will fit quite securely. There are many patterns and instruction on-line

  28. Oh and here is an entertaining Scotty Kilmer vid on how to use an ozone generator like Wayne and I have to deal with things like covid-19 safely. Keep in mind when you sterilize a mask or whatever you don't even know if it is contaminated or not. IMO save masks and periodically process a bunch. A local hospital is now stationing cardboard boxes lined with those yellow bio hazard bags at exits so disposable masks from staff leaving work can be tossed in for sterilization and reuse if needed. I plan to keep letting folks here know what I am hearing/seeing from local healthcare pros. Hope I'm not boring anyone...

  29. Here is a good IMHO way to sew masks for yourselves and to donate to local hospitals if it comes down to it. FYI we all may be reusing masks soon. The CDC in the US has advised to wear a mask when going outside. Demand is rising while supplies are running out. Masks can be decontaminated without damaging the material by either ozone treatment or with UV light. US hospital is using the UV room cleansing devices ($10,000 each) to decontaminate masks hung on clothes lines in the room. UV can't go around corners though so it should be re-positioned to get all of the mask or mirrors can be also stationed to allow full mask exposure. I like ozone since it can be made quite easily via low cost ozone generators. Need an open space like a empty parking lot or roof top and an enclosed space (car in this example) to toss masks in with the car's recirculating lever on (not on the fresh air setting). While engine with heater on maximum and with recirculating fan on you run the car with all windows/hatches closed for about 70 minutes. Everything using oxygen to live or with oxygen in it's wall structure will be destroyed. Then since ozone is bad to breathe you must open all doors and turn fan to fresh air and also if you are in a hurry blow with another fan to help empty the ozone out. Scotty Kilmer a mechanic on Yutube has a good vid on it and he has a PHD so is clear on it's possibilities and process. IMO a car can be used without running also as long as a battery hookup keeps the fan running without dying. His vid is aimed at decontaminating the car and I've just added masks to the job. Looks like it may come to this so smart folks here may have ideas how to best accomplish mask decontamination without fabric-damaging stuff like bleach. I'm thinking an old sealing fridge outside in a safe area with a small ozone generator inside on the bottom with electric cord easily running through the seal. 3 hours and whatever life form or virus in there is toast. Open while standing upwind and turn a fan on to aid in emptying the fridge of the ozone. Ozone generators are about $70. on Amazon but with exchange and shipping it's more like $220.. I know cuz I just got one. Clothes/masks, gowns, anything can be done. It is known that the generators kill Sars which is also a corona virus and studies are strongly suggesting same deal with this one. Sorry about the long post but with time on our hands and sewing machines/old fridges and Amazon around we may need ways to better protect ourselves and others and to help hospitals needing PPEs.

  31. Retaliation could hurt somebody else down the line anyway. For instance, if the Canadian company that supplies 3M with the redwood paper pulp needed for masks, could cause 3m’s production to suffer and ultimately people may die due to lack of PPE’s . Innocent people that had nothing to do with the politics. And it would hurt Canadian jobs. It’s not a win situation

  37. Yup if we don’t send the material to them they are not making any for some time . We supply a lot of electricity to the northern part of the USA. I think a good Canadian would save all that for our own safety. Not to hurt them but Canada for Canada I’m sure they would do the same

  42. Too much of fly fishing content is from guys in mountains that have big roaring rivers with a kilometer of space to false cast. Or even worse..spey lol Definitely nowhere near as much content of guys fishing steel in densely forested creeks. Some of the indicator stuff is useful, but at the same time I need someone to watch what the heck I am doing and tell me whether what I am doing is right or not lol. Then youve got guys that swing streamers for salmon and I think I know how to do it, but ive never had any luck at all doing it so I must be doing something totally wrong. The only way Ive caught salmon is nymphing roe patterns. Lets face it I suck and i need help lol!
