  1. When I am up North where the blood sucking creatures are way more active than down here. (meaning I am not used to feeding them). I use a bug suit as needed and 100 % deet on my hat and cuffs to keep them at bay. I also wear latex gloves on my hands when they are exposed to keep them from biting. One of the good things about the little buggers is when you are out fishing and you have a dozen or so dragonflies on the carpet deck on the boat and they attack the incoming horseflies. Lots of fun watching that when the bite slows down. Art

  2. Hey everyone. It’s been a while since I posted a fishing report. Thought I would share a great family paddling trip I had this weekend. To be honest, I wasn’t even going to bring a rod on this trip. It’s our first time going on a family paddle this year, and when I rolled out of town, I didn’t even know what river we were going to hit. We decided to try a new river that I have never paddled before. There was a strong current and head wind, which made paddling my canoe with my 2 kids very hard, and slow. But we made it to a nice little spot to stop for a picnic, and well needed break. It looked like a fishy spot, so I took a cast. I caught 7 fish in my first 10 casts. My son Alex was my net man! And we had a blast. My wife saw the action, and came over for a few casts, and she tied in to a nice pike! When my daughter saw how much fun we were having, she decided to give a cast as well. She only took one cast…. 12lb pike! The smiles say it all! At the same time we were landing the pike, my son grabbed a rod and casted and caught a nice bass. His first time doing the entire process and catching a fish all by himself! All in, we caught about 15 fish in the hour we were there. And we brought 2 pike home to turn in to fish tacos!! The paddle back was full of smiles and fish stories, with the wind at our tail, and the current pushing us home. It could not have been a better day!! Really really good memories had by all!

  6. Chewed out an Ohio boat this morning casting top water baits at my shore/dock. That’s twice in 2 days ?. 2 boats. Yesterday a tournament guy in a Ranger scouted the shallow shoreline. No rods. I guess looking for nests for opening. That’s more like it.

  8. I think anyone breaking the law should face punishment. If you see it and you do not report it then you are as guilty as they are for turning a blind eye. I personally disagree on the state of bass fishing in the U.S. I have fished for both and honestly don't bass fish up North because I can do that down here. I however do not have musky or pike due to the warm weather so they are what I target. I think that up North needs the added protection due to the short growing season and the higher mortality as water levels fluctuate. Art

  9. Treat your jacket with this stuff, do not apply to your skin. All the guys turkey hunting use it on their camo gear for sitting in the spring for long periods for ticks and other critters. EDIT: this product contains Permethrin https://www.tscstores.com/UltraShield-EX-950ml-P17980.aspx

  10. I'd buy a cheap bug jacket to start and see if you like the bug jacket concept. I don't like bug jackets. They restrict my vision and make me feel claustrophobic, for lack of a better word. I like spraying the hell out of my hat and clothes with bug spray. Chuck showed me this, if you're stationary (sitting around the campfire or something) light a bunch of pics around the perimeter and mainly upwind. The regular, old school pics, not the citronella ones.

  12. The refs have been basically terrible for the whole playoffs. It's long overdue Boston had some bad calls cost them. I like how the Blues are the tougher, more physical team and pushing Boston around. I wish Leaf management would notice the makeup of the 2 teams that made the final and realize physicality, toughness and intimidation are important, especially in the post season.

  14. I have very little experience catching walleye, although I have fished Nipissing once before, many moons ago. Dressed Mepps black fury 3 with a worm was landing walleye if I remember correctly.

  16. Bought this at CT. $70. Comes with cartridge that lasts 12 hrs. Rechargeable lithium battery. Rather than the other units that use butane. Can buy a cartridge that lasts 40 hr for $30. Will let y’all know what I think. Stay tuned.

  20. Their FG% was abysmal in game 2. If they hit half of the shots they missed they would have won by 20 points or more.

  22. Got a nice 240.00 ticket yesterday, 40 feet from the launch. One lifejacket, the tag had faded so you couldn't read the info. Jacket was still good. No rips or tears, zipper buckles and straps all work. But the tag had faded so that makes a perfectly good lifejacket that works.......a 240.00 ticket. No warning given and the officer was waaaaay too excited by the sight of a lifejacket that he might be able to give a ticket on. Could not get the jacket into his hands fast enough so he could check the label. Just sad the tax grabs needed by the OPP If the jacket was in terrible condition I would understand, but just because the writing has faded on a label? I would gladly have put it on and jumped overboard but we werre in 4' of water lol At least we didn't leave empty handed. A 35", 32", and 30" pike mean about 3.60 an inch lol.
