  1. Hi all, Had a couple hours to spare after work so took the dog for a walk. We headed down to Eagle lake and set up on a popular spot. The bite was pretty much on for the whole hour or so before it started getting dark. Roloff has not been fishing with me for a while as he is getting on a bit now and has difficulty with long treks in the snow, so a trip to the bridge now it is warmer was right up his alley!

  2. That worked, OIM. Venison that has been grain (or corn) fed, and properly cared for after it has been shot, will taste very much like lean beef. Deer that mostly eats browse and mast (acorns etc) has a different flavour, which I would describe as richer. You would notice a difference between that and beef. Deer that the hunter has handled poorly in the field will taste "gamey" and in some cases is completely unpalatable. Failure to clean it right away, or cut out badly shot-damaged tissue, or allowing the carcass to stay warm, either by not skinning it or storing it when the temperature is too warm, all these things can make for pretty crappy venison. If a carcass smells bad, there is nothing a butcher can do to rescue it. BTW you can tell your lady friend from me that 26 years is one year more than a life sentence. ? Doug

  3. Yawn.* well this year this thread has been getting real old real fast. If the adults ever show up wanting to talk about any other team rather then just bashing the leafs i’ll Be happy to have a conversation on where Ottawa is going moving forward, the incredible season Montreal and Calgary are having, Will Winnipeg face the same problems Washington has in the past being a firewagon hockey team? How much more can Connor McDavid take in Edmonton and what is to be done? Are the Canucks 2 or 5 years away from playoff contention............... but since the people who hate the leafs don’t have a team and would rather just yell about how much the leafs suck, I can’t see any of that intelligent conversation happening. I mean, when we get such intelligent counter arguements as ‘wow’ why even bother having the thread? I mean, that pretty much says it all right? Careful Pierre McGuire your job is on the line with such insightful commentary as this. Now carry on. As you were.

  6. I think there is something rotten in the dressing room that has affected the team and the way they play. It can't be good that one of the faces of the team, Matthews, states to the media that they gave up in the third period of the Tampa game. Professionals don't give up! I sure hope they find it and deal with it before the play-offs. HH

  7. For some reason I posted a few things about onions of course and they didn't show up here. I am sure it's me or my PC. Most likely me. I was told by my brother that shot Bambi, just like fishing it isn't the destination it is the journey. I would say a pound of Walleye catching them in the boat 10 miles off shore I could buy it in Dover at 1/2 price. or less, that's no fun. That's no fun. Does anyone have a good corned beef recipe using brisket? That brisket you made Speil made looks phenomenal. St. Paddy's day is today so I'm a bit late. Today is our 26th anniversary. Some day she might Marry me. A 24 year engagement is well past the statutory limitation for a Diamond she says. Actually the stone fell out last Fall. I told her to take it in for a tune up every year. So now a months salary is 1/2 of what it was 25 years ago, Giant Tiger has nice rings. No one listened to me at the Steel plant for 30 years so what else is new? Lets see if this posts.

  11. All the fun I had with the whities has come to an end. Still lots of ice,so it,s perch,n time. Im not a big percher guy and I dont use live bait,so using baits not so familiar to me is a challenge. The morning was beautiful. Little wind and the sun was coming up. Drilled my first hole and I was WT%#%$ Dirty brown water 1/2 mile out. Moved out another 1/2 and found some water that was fishable. First fish was a dink, then the 2nd was a whopper It measured 14 1/2 on the button. Pic does not show this fish justice Ended the morning with 6 perch. Just enough for a fresh dinner. .

  13. I recently raffled off a donation custom Sage Rod Build with all the proceeds going to the LHFC Trout hatchery. I was very proud of the work on this build and it raised $2,150.00 for the rearing of Steelhead to eventually be stocked into the Saugeen River. A few pictures of the build.

  14. LOL, that's what I thought until my young buddy schooled me yesterday 15 - 2. Yes, I missed a few, but we can never take anything for granted. Had no problem last year hooking up. Just when I thought I had it mastered, life reminded me nothing is guaranteed. Couple of nice fish there Terry!
