  1. I will always treasure the memory of fishing with him off of Big Cliff's place. He gave me some very good counsel when I was going through a particularly bad time in my life. The story has been shared on this site more than once.

  2. Just seeing this now. I have so many fishing memories of time spent with Beansie. Crappie fishing in Bobcaygeon, carp fishing in Caygeon and Peterborough. Perch fishing in my boat on Simcoe every fall. Norm was a good man who was always positive and funny and a joy to spent time fishing with. He will be missed by many.

  3. I saw David Byrne at the Sony Centre in 2018. Great show, and somewhat political given what was going on south of the border then....similar to now. My wife and I went to a concert this Saturday at the exact same venue...now called Meridian Hall. We saw the "Life is a Carnival/Last Waltz" tour... a tribute to Robbie Robertson by a "super group" of musicians, including a couple of the Heart Breakers. Fantastic show ! However, when we booked the tickets, we didn't realize it was the same night that Tay Tay was doing her thing at Rogers Centre. The GO train ride in and out of Union from Oakville was entertaining in itself...quite the mix...Swifties decked out in their glittery regalia, Leafs and Oilers fans in Matthews and McDavid jerseys, and graying hippies still trying to squeeze into their old black t-shirts with "The Band" across the front.. Yep, Simcoe Smelt are now just a fond memory. Fortunately out in eastern Ontario come April you can still fill buckets up by Eganville 😉

  4. Smoke you say..... I recall very well the first time I heard Psycho Killer CM. Myself and three friends were heading to Keswick for my first ever Simcoe ice fishing adventure, an over night Smelt fishing adventure actually. It was 1977, I was 17 and my friend Rob who was driving slammed the 77 cassette into the tape player, I was immediately hooked on The Talking Heads and have been a fan ever since. FYI....the Smelt fishing was insane, buckets of some of the biggest Smelt I've ever seen and those days I believe sadly, are long gone.

  5. Have you found an ideal fishing spot yet? Another great spot I know of for fishing near the French River is Britt, located near the Magnetawan River. This area is well known and popular with anglers, especially during the spring months. Tiny Fishing

  6. I hope everyone is celebrating remembrance day for what it is and means. I never had the opportunity to meet or get to know my grand fathers as they lost their lives in the first world war long before I was born. On a lighter note just a few trail cam pics. Finally got some cougar pictures. Some pics of whitetail deer with the forest ground covered in yellow poplar leaves, not near as pretty as the maple leaves you folks have in the eastern provinces but still kinda nice.

  7. I was rummaging around in the depths of the freezer yesterday, looking for something to use for tonight's meal. I found a chunk of Bison rump that I had from last winter...it was the last piece of a care package of Bison meat that I got from a buddy in the restaurant supply business. Scrounged around the fridge, freezer and pantry, and came up with.. ..leeks, celery and parsley in the crisper drawer leftover from a previous meal ..last of the carrots from the garden ..some wild Bolete (Porcini) mushrooms that I had foraged and dried earlier in the autumn ..frozen peas and green beans from this summer's garden ..a half bag of pearl barley ..beef stock, olive oil and red wine Chop, saute, braise and simmer the above and came up with Bison, Mushroom, Vegetable and Barley soup (actually more like a stew). Definitely a free form recipe...but it turned out darn delicious !
